Common questions
- Where are my pages stored?
- On your device, in the app’s own storage. If you enable “Use iCloud Sync” in Settings, they are also stored in Kajet’s private iCloud container inside your own Apple Account. Nobody else — including us — can read them.
- A page has not appeared on my other device.
- Check that both devices are signed in to the same Apple Account, that “Use iCloud Sync” is turned on in Kajet’s settings on both, and that they have a network connection. Sync runs in the background and can take a moment; on iPhone and iPad you can pull the page list down to refresh it.
- Can I turn iCloud sync off?
- Yes. Sync is a setting you control. When you change it, Kajet moves your pages between local and iCloud storage so nothing is lost. Turning sync off does not delete the copies already in iCloud; you can remove those in the system settings of your Apple Account.
- Do I need an account?
- No. Kajet has no accounts and no sign-in. Only optional iCloud sync uses the Apple Account already configured on your device.
- Can I get a deleted page back?
- Usually, yes. Move to Trash (⌥⌘⌫) sets a page aside rather than deleting it, and Restore puts it back in the notebook. The trash keeps pages for 30 days and then clears them by itself; Delete Immediately and Empty Trash remove them for good and both ask first. A page removed for good cannot be recovered.
- What is the difference between the archive and the trash?
- Both take a page out of the list and neither reads its contents, so a locked page can be filed without unlocking it. The archive is for pages you have finished with and keeps them indefinitely; the trash is for pages you no longer want and clears itself after 30 days. Each has a screen of its own with its own search, and both show a page the way reading mode does, without a caret — restoring it is what makes it writable again. Filing a page removes its pin.
- I have forgotten which pages are locked.
- A locked page shows a padlock beside its name in the list, and opens on a padlock and an Unlock button instead of its text. Unlocking is per device, so a page you opened on the Mac is still locked on the phone, and Page › Close Locked Pages shuts every open one at once. Locking hides a page inside Kajet; it does not encrypt the stored file.
- How do I export a page?
- Use the share button to send a page as a Markdown or text file to any app, or Export as PDF for the finished page — headings, tables, coloured code, diagrams and mathematics on white paper. On Mac you can also export the source to a file and print the same document ⌘P produces; on iPhone and iPad the PDF opens the share sheet, where Save to Files puts it wherever you want it.
